UAE president Meets Lebanese PM

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) President Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al-Nahyan Sunday met with visiting Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri, the official WAM news agency reported.

During the meeting, Hariri, who is here for a short visit, briefed the 82-year-old president on the latest developments in Southern Lebanon, said the report.

The two exchanged views over the situation on the West Bank and Gaza as well as the Middle East peace negotiations between the Palestinians and Israel in Washington, which ended without any breakthroughs Saturday.

Hariri also conveyed to Sheikh Zayed, who returned on the eve of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan after a successful kidney- transplant operation in the U.S. in late August, congratulations of Lebanese President Emile Lahoud and the Lebanese people for his recovery and safe return to the country.

Since his return on November 26, Zayed has received leaders of Egypt, Palestine, Bahrain, Oman, Jordan, Qatar, Yemen and Pakistan.

Also on Sunday, Sheikh Zayed received a letter from Qatar' Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani on the bilateral ties between the two countries.

The letter was delivered to the President by Qatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad Bin Jassim bin Jabir al-Thani, who arrived here earlier Sunday, during a meeting at Al Bahar Palace.

Hariri has left here for home after the meeting.
