Multinationals Committee, China Join Efforts in Combating CounterfeitsThe Quality Brands Protection Committee (QBPC) of the Association of Foreign-Invested Enterprises in China has become a valued partner for the Chinese government in combating counterfeiting."The Chinese government has set a good example for us. We welcome the growing momentum and various enforcement initiatives throughout the country, orchestrated by Vice-Premier Wu Bangguo and the newly established National Anti-Counterfeiting Coordination Group," said Joseph Johnson, chairman of the QBPC. The committee has been in close contact with leading officials and law enforcement officials in the fight against counterfeits. It released a position paper and worked closely with the media to increase awareness of the economic and social impact of counterfeiting on industries and consumers. "We clearly understand there is a long way to go. The complexity and significance of counterfeiting requires a comprehensive reform of relevant laws, intensified war against local protection, and consistent dedication from government leaders at all levels," said Joseph. The Quality Brands Protection Committee was set up in March in response to a call for concerted and coordinated corporate-government efforts to address the surging occurrence of counterfeiting in China. Its 57 member organizations include Coca-Cola, Nike, Procter & Gamble, Dell and Epson.
