Clintons Thank Americans in Address

In a video greeting for the nation, President Clinton and Hillary Rodham Clinton thank Americans for ``the privilege of serving'' them for the past eight years.

In the message, taped in advance for release on Sunday, Clinton says they and daughter Chelsea will celebrate Christmas with family and friends ``to reflect on our good fortune, rejoice in the memories of the year past and look forward with hope to the days ahead.''

Clinton leaves office on Jan. 20, a few weeks after the first lady begins her new career as a senator from New York.

``As we enjoy our last Christmas in the White House, the president, Chelsea and I are profoundly grateful for the gift you've given our family: the privilege of serving your family these last eight years,'' Mrs. Clinton says in the video.

In a separate written message, Clinton also sent greetings to Jews celebrating Hanukkah and congratulated Muslims around the world on the occasion of the Eid Al-Fitr.
