China's old industrial base in Jilin Province has planned to optimize its industry and focus on five sectors where it has advantages.

In five years, the province is to build itself into the five industrial bases: automobile production, fine chemical industry and synthetic materials, maize reprocessing, LCD (liquid crystal display) screens, and development of traditional Chinese medicine.

The province hopes the five new sectors will help the industrial added value increase over 9 percent annually in the coming five years.

The province will give further support to its prestigious First Automobile Works (FAW) Group based in Changchun, which is China's largest automaker by far. It, produced 212,000 motor vehicles in the first half of the year and its sales reached 206,000.

According to the province's blueprint, it will also expand the yearly capacity to produce 680,000 tons of ethylene and 1.3 million tons of alcohol used for fuel.
