China to Amend Trademark Law to Facilitate WTO AccessionIn order to better protect trademark rights, China will amend its trademark law and revise some provisions to align them with the rules of the World Trade Organization (WTO).The draft amendments to the trademark law were submitted Friday, December 22, to the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) for deliberation. Wang Zhongfu, director of the State Administration for Industry and Commerce, gave a presentation on the draft amendments to the plenary meeting of the NPC Standing Committee. Wang said that with China's impending entry to the WTO, it is a "necessity" to make appropriate revisions on the trademark law, so as to improve the country's trademark administration system and to keep China's promise of implementing the international rules regarding intellectual property protection. |
