Macao People Speak Highly of Jiang's VisitMany noted figures share the feeling that they are encouraged by Chinese President Jiang Zemin's recent visit to the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR).Florinda da Rosa Silva Chan, secretary for administration and justice of the Macao SAR government, said that Jiang's conversation with the SAR officials was very encouraging and that local civil servants will work harder and do a better job. Francis Tam Pak Un, secretary for economy and finance, said the president knows much about the work of the Macao SAR government over the past year and has greater expectations, too. "With the support of the central government, we feel more confident of the SAR's future development," Tam said. Lei Pang Chu, editor-in-chief of the Macao Daily News, said Macao people should manage well local affairs in various aspects to ensure better implementation of the "one country, two systems" principle in Macao. Wong Hon Keong, chairman of the Macao Association of Social Science, said President Jiang seemed light-hearted here and commended the achievements made by the SAR. "The president's kindness and favorable comments are rather encouraging and will make the residents more confident of the future," he said. Lei Pui Lam, vice-director of the Macao Chinese Education Association, noted that the president managed to visit a school during his short stay in Macao. "It shows that the central government pays much attention to education, and the teachers in Macao are duty-bound to raise our educational quality together with the efforts of the government," Lei said. |
