Beijing Regulates Recreational Places

No electronic games-halls are allowed in such public places as libraries, museums, memorials, palaces and cultural centers in Beijing, according to Measures for Carrying out Beijing Recreation Management Regulations soon to take effect.

The above-mentioned measures by the Beijing municipal government also rigidly stipulate spaces of recreational places. Within the framework, night clubs and electronic game-halls should be above 200 square meters. Billiards halls should be larger than 100 square meters, at least 1.5 meter distance among billiards desks.

Business hours are restricted to 8:00am to 2:00am. Longer hours can be expected for special occasions approved by related Beijing cultural administrative departments.

According to the Measures, Beijing cultural administrations, public security bureaus and industrial and commercial administrative departments are eligible for overseeing recreational places in line with respective rules and functions.

Beijing used to have more than 11,000 recreational places. But 3,300 of such places have been closed down in Beijing's overhauling maneuver since this September
