Top Procurator on Fighting Crime

Chinese top procurator December 21 asked procurators at all levels to strictly abide by their professional principles and help govern the country according to law, in Nanjing, capital of east China's Jiangsu Province.

Han Zhubin, procurator-general of China's Supreme People's Procuratorate made the remarks at a national procuratorial meeting.

Statistics show that in the January-November period, China's procuratorates have retrieved 3.67 billion yuan (approximately US4442 million) of economic losses, approved the arrest of 653,000 suspect criminals, and publicly prosecuted over 628,000 people.

Han also called for the strengthening of the building of grassroots procuratorates in accordance with President Jiang Zemin 's instructions on the role of the Communist Party of China.

He urged the heads of grassroots procuratorates to fulfill their duties and make great efforts to maintain the stability of society. He asked procurators to intensify anti-corruption efforts, work towards the reform of state-owned enterprises, and cooperate with other departments and industries on crime-prevention work.
