Yugoslav President to Visit Greece in JanuaryYugoslav President Vojislav Kostunica will pay an official visit to Greece on January 16, 2001 in a bid to strengthen the relations between the two Balkan countries.During his visit, the first of its kind, Kostunica will hold talks with Greek Prime Minister Costas Simitis on the situation in the Balkan region and bilateral relations, the Macedonian Press Agency (MPA) reported Thursday. Earlier this month, the Yugoslav president arrived in Greece for a pilgrimage to the Serb Orthodox Monastery on Mount Athos, a semi-autonomous monastic community in northern Greece. In a statement made to the press after his meeting with Greece' s Macedonia-Thrace Minister George Paschalidis, Kostunica thanked Greece for its support for Yugoslavia, and stressed that the good relations between the two countries will help safeguard the stability and peace in the Balkan region. |
