HK to Host International Film Festival Next AprilThe 25th Hong Kong International Film Festival (HKIFF) will be held from April 6 to 21, 2001, and more than 200 films from some 40 countries and regions and over 300 shows will be screened and staged.The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) and the Hong Kong Arts Development Council (HKADC) jointly announced their agreement on a joint presentation of the event Friday, December 22. The agreement followed recent discussions held between the two parties on closer cooperation between government and the private sector in organizing cultural events. The joint presentation of HKIFF will be the first of a series of LCSD/HKADC cultural joint ventures in the pipeline with a view to further enhancing the standard of professional excellence and better promoting the development and appreciation of performing and visual arts. With the support of the film industry and other organizations over the years, the HKIFF has grown from a small-scale program into one of the most important events in Hong Kong's cultural calendar.
