Tianjin Port's Handling Capacity to Reach 100 Million Tons

The rebuilding work on the No.27 berth of north China's Tianjin Port, was completed recently, making it possible for the port to handle fifth generation container ships.

The new berth is able to conduct 300,000 TEUs (twenty-feet equivalent unit) of container ships a year, the port authority said.

According to the port authority, this major port in north China is expected to handle 95 million tons of throughput this year, and the figure will exceed 100 million tons next year, nine years ahead of its scheduled goal.

The port has also decided to invest some 4.05 billion yuan (US$490 million) in port reconstruction in the coming five years.
