Beijing Police on Alert for Crime Prior to Festivals

Beijing Police will continue to combat crimes to guarantee a safe and happy atmosphere for local people, who are about to celebrate New Year's Day and the traditional Chinese Spring Festival.

A spokesman for the Beijing Police said in Beijing Thursday that New Year's Day and the Spring Festival, which falls on January 24, 2001, will be a time for the Police to keep an even closer watch on public security in the Chinese capital since there are some thieves who attempt to steal or rob properties before festivals.

The spokesman vowed that the police will continue the campaign of fighting against organized crimes in order to create a harmonious atmosphere for local people.

He also unveiled that police in Xicheng District alone have cracked 164 criminal cases and seized 330 suspects in December so far.
