Russia Hails Direct Dialogue Between Palestine, IsraelMoscow welcomes the resumption of the Palestinian-Israeli peace talks in Washington, Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov said here Thursday, December 21."We welcome the resumption of the direct dialogues between Palestine and Israel, which are being held now in Washington, and we are maintaining contacts with both sides," Ivanov told reporters. "In Washington, the sides are discussing ways of settling the problems, which were not agreed upon before the crisis," he said. "The format of the consultations have been chosen by the sides, and we will welcome any positive results if they are achieved. If Russia's more active involvement is required, we are prepared to help, on the condition that both sides welcome it," he stressed. "It is important for Israel and Palestine to come to results at the talks in order to finally stop the violence and reach a political settlement in the Middle East."
