Vietnam Wants to See Close Relations with Laos: Party Leader

The Vietnamese Party and State want to see the close relations between Laos and Vietnam be further strengthened in the interests of the two peoples, said General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Le Kha Phieu.

Phieu made the remarks here on Wednesday while meeting with visiting Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister Somsavat Lengsavad, who is leading a delegation of the External Relations Commission of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party Central Committee (LPRP CC) on an official visit to Vietnam, reported Vietnam's official news agency VNA on Thursday.

Phieu said: "a stronger development of Vietnam-Laos bilateral relations would also benefit peace, national independence, democracy and social progress in the world."

He said these efforts had made positive contributions to the development of the special friendship and solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.

Somsavat Lengsavad, who is also a member of LPRP CC, pledged that Laos would do its best to promote the special ties.

At the meeting, Phieu and Somsavat Lengsavad also exchanged views on regional and international issues of common concern.
