Ethiopia, Eritrea to Exchange POWs: Official

Ethiopia said Thursday, December 21, that 110 Eritrean prisons of war (POWs) would released and sent to their country Friday.

Also on the same day, 80 Ethiopian POWs would arrive in Addis Ababa from Eritrea, an official of the Ethiopian Foreign Ministry told local media.

Following the exchange of the first batch of POWs, more than 200 Eritrean POWs would be released next Saturday, the official said, adding the release of the Eritrean POWs would be carried out on voluntary basis.

Ethiopia and Eritrea, the two Horn of African states, who fought to each other in the border war over the past two years, signed a comprehensive peace agreement in Algiers, Algeria, on December 12.
