Macao SAR Chief Executive on President Jiang's Macao Trip

Chinese President Jiang Zemin's current trip to Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) has been a great success, said Edmund Ho Hau Wah, chief executive of Macao SAR, Thursday, December 21.

Speaking at a press conference, the chief executive said he has been with President Jiang during the past two days and "I have got the feeling that he is very happy in Macao."

He said the president is happy because the president has felt the local people's love of both the motherland and Macao and the support of the more than 400,000 Macao residents to the Macao SAR government. The chief executive added that the president is pleased that the situation in both Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and Macao SAR remains good.

President Jiang left Macao on Thursday after two-days of activities marking the first anniversary of the establishment of the Macao SAR.

The chief executive said the SAR government will continue to keep up its performance in accordance with the principle of "one country, two systems" and the will of the people in Macao.

The government will make more efforts to create conditions for a healthier and more diversified economy in Macao, said the chief executive.

He said Macao expects to expand its financial services, business and trade industries by taking advantage of the Pearl River Delta as a heartland.
