Farmers' Income to Become Focus of Governmental WorkProvincial government of Jilin in northeast China will focus on increasing local farmers' income rather than grain output as in the past years, according to a recent provincial working conference in Changchun. To increase the income of farmers, Jilin will reform its industrial setup, take practical measures to increase the growth of the agricultural and sideline sectors and introduce an advanced industrialized management in farming. Jilin is China's largest production base of commodity grain with an average annual output of around 18 billion kg. Statistics show that 60 percent of the income of local farmers come from the grain business. China's grain market has become more advantageous to buyers, as the purchasing price of corn, the staple grain production of Jilin, dropped sharply last year, causing an income reduction for local farmers. |
