Progress Expected over Israel-Palestine Talks

China expressed the hope Thursday, December 21, that the on-going talks between Israeli and Palestinian negotiators in Washington after months of bloodshed would be fruitful.

China calls on both sides to keep restraint and stop any activities detrimental to the peace process so as to put an end to the conflict as soon as possible, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zhang Qiyue said at a regular press conference.

The bloodshed in the past three months between Palestine and Israel has caused casualties on both sides and greatly obstructed the peace process.

China is seriously concerned and worried about the continuous deterioration of the situation, said the spokeswoman.

The Israeli and Palestinian negotiators arrived in Washington on Tuesday to meet with US mediators on how to end the violence in the Middle East and resume peace efforts.
