Shangdong to Have 1,000 Schools Connected to Internet

The telecommunications department in east China's Shangdong Province has pledged to make sure that 1,000 primary and middle schools will be linked to the Internet in 2001.

The provincial education commission and the telecommunications department have launched the "Tomorrow Project" to help 200 key schools link to the Internet for free. So far, a total of 500 schools have been connected to the Internet.

To get on-line, a school is required to have a computer classroom with at least two computers, and offer students online guidance.
