The China Centenary Altar project was completed on December 20 and will soon be opened to visitors.

The project was started in November 1998. In addition to scenic attractions built outside, the interior of the Altar is an art gallery with a floor space of 20,000 square meters. The named Centenary Altar Art Gallery comprises of centenary hall, eastern and western art gallery, modern art gallery and multi-media art gallery.

The China Centenary Altar has epitomized several firsts. The large annular embossment fresco that loops around the centenary hall is considered to be the largest one in China. The fresco has used some twelve kinds of chromatic stones and reflects the tiptop level of Chinese fresco art.

As reported, crowds of people in Beijing will celebrate the new millennium at the China Centenary Altar from the evening of December 31 to the dawning of the new century.
