Aviation Circles Across Straits Call for Early Direct Air Service

December 19, the visiting delegation of the aviation circles from China's mainland to Taiwan Province called on the aviation circles across the Taiwan Straits for an early direct air service. Representatives of Taiwan's aviation circles also agreed that there is no technological problem in direct air-transportation across the Straits.

According to a report by "Minsheng" newspaper of Taiwan December 20, on the invitation of Taiwan "Civil Aeronautics Administration" and "China Airlines", 12 members of China Civil Aviation Association arrived in Taiwan December 18 to attend the Cross-Straits Aviation Seminar.

At the seminar, the representatives called for an early direct flight across the Straits. Ye Yigan, director of Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) East Bureau and head of the delegation, indicated that there are no technological problems for realizing the "three links" (exchange of mails, trade and air and freighter services between China's mainland and Taiwan) provided that the exchanges are conducted under the "One China" Principle.

Wang Cunhao, director of CAAC Southwest Bureau, also noted that the motherland is heading for development in western regions and about 40 airports will be put into operation in southwest China by the year 2015. He wishes that the direct air service could not only be achieved between Taiwan and east China, but also between Taiwan and southwestern regions.

Lee Yun-Ling, president of Taiwan "China Airlines", pointed out that it is a common view of Taiwan's aviation circles that only the "three links" can help bring about business opportunities and he also believes there are no technological difficulties hampering the direct flight. In fact, he has already mapped out the relevant flight routes from Taipei to Shanghai when he was still in the "Far-East Airlines".
