South China City to Have More BridgesNanning, capital of south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, will construct the fifth bridge across a local river that runs through the regional capital. The city already has four bridges spanning the local river called Yongjiang River. The new bridge, Yonghe Bridge, or Bridge of Eternal Peace, will be 1,402 meters long, 35 meters wide, with 72.8 meters in arrow height and a single span of 338 meters. The new bridge is near the downtown area of Nanning. Completion of the bridge will enormously alleviate the transport pressure of the No.1 bridge now in service and will help cut short the trip from downtown areas to the airport of Nanning. The bridge will cost 278 million yuan (about US$33.49 million). According to an agreement reached last month between Guofa Capital Construction Management Co. Ltd., with the headquarters in Beijing, and Nanning Urban Construction Investment and Development Corp., Guofa will pay all the needed investment in the form of BOT (build-operate-transfer). It is expected the new bridge will be completed and opened to traffic by next summer. Sources: chinadaily.com.cn
