Foreign Investors Keen on Inputting in Qinghai's Tourism Industry

With the upsurge of the great development of China's western regions, more and more foreigners are tapping for the potential of tourist market in Qinghai province. Investors from Australia, Canada, Japan, Hong Kong and other countries and regions have expressed their interest in cooperating with local tourist agencies in the northwest provinces.

Some Hong Kong investors are mapping out their plans to inject 20 million yuan in setting up a first-rate hotel in Ta'er Monastery, a famous Lamaist temple of the province. An international group in Hong Kong has also signed an agreement with the provincial government, underwriting 150 million yuan in developing tourism resources.

"Endowed with unique ecological environment Qinghai is abundant in tourism resources with a long history and brilliant culture. Tourism revenue in Qinghai is expected to reach 1.5 billion yuan this year, a record high in the province's history", said Li Xuansheng, director of Qinghai Tourism Bureau in an interview.

As the leading tertiary industry of the province, tourism only takes up four percent of the province's GDP. "But we are expecting it to grow very fast. In three to five years' time, the tourism revenue will contribute ten percent to the Province's GDP, making it a pillar industry in the province," said Li.
