Jordanian King to Visit India Next Year

As part of high-level political contacts, Jordanian King Abdullah will undertake a visit to India in the first half of next year, an Indian foreign office spokesman said Tuesday, December 19.

Dates for the visit are being worked out, the spokesman was quoted as saying by the Press Trust of India (PTI).

In his one-day visit to India on Monday, Jordanian Foreign Minister Abdel Elah Mohammad Khatib called on Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and briefed him on the present status of the Middle East peace process and its future prospects, said the PTI.

Khatib said Jordan appreciated India's role and said India's influence on the side of peace would be an important factor in the process.

Vajpayee complimented Jordan on the constructive role it has played in the peace process, the PTI added.

During talks between Khatib and his Indian counterpart External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh, the two sides discussed the problem of international terrorism, said the foreign office spokesman.

Khatib also said Jordan was keen to have greater Indian investments, especially those from Indian information technology companies, the spokesman added.
