HK People Expected to Live Longer

The expectation of life of Hong Kong people is forecast to further increase in the next 30 years, according to the official report "Hong Kong Life Tables 1996-2029" published Tuesday.

By 2029, the expectations of life at birth for males and females will be 79.3 years and 84.5 years respectively, according to the report released by the Census and Statistics Department of Hong Kong.

Hong Kong has experienced a continuous decline in mortality during 1996-1999, leading to an increase in expectation of life, said the report.

The expectation of life at birth for males increased from 76.2 years in 1996 to 77.2 years in 1999 and that for females from 81.8 to 82.4 years.
