Anhui Province to Streamline Township Administration

Along with the ongoing tax-for-fees reform in China's rural areas, east China's Anhui Province has recently initiated another reform to cut the over staffed township administrative departments in order to alleviate farmers' tax burden.

According to an official from the Anhui Personnel Department, the more than 10 setups under the township party committee and government will be reduced or merged into two or three, with more than 10 percent of the staff to be cut.

In addition, the average number of the township public institutions in each town, such as the township agricultural technical popularization stations and land administration stations, will also be cut by one third.

On average, there are currently 300 public servants in each town in Anhui, which has aggravated the financial deficit and led to heavy financial burden to the local farmers.

The streamlining is expected to be completed by the end of this year and efforts are being made to offer proper arrangements for those sacked.
