Japanese Newspaper's Reports on Sino-Japanese Forestry Cooperation RefutedThe Beijing Greening Committee and the Foreign Affairs Office of the Beijing Municipal government, in a meeting with the press on Monday, clarified and corrected the untrue reports by Japan's Sankei Shimbun about Japan-China Friendship Forestry.The Japanese newspaper carried an article on December 7, saying that 40 percent of the trees in a Sino-Japanese forestry park in suburban Beijing have withered away. The report also said that nearly half trees, including cherry blossoms, which have been planted since last year, have died, alleging that the condition of Sino-Japanese forestry park will affect bilateral cooperation in forestry in the future. Vice Chairman Gan Jing of Beijing Greening Committee said that such a report is not objective, and if it is not clarified and corrected, Sino-Japanese cooperation in forestry will be damaged. Sino-Japanese forest, covering 10 hectares, is located in southwestern Beijing. Both China and Japan have invested 1 million RMB yuan (US$120,000) in recent years in planting 11,000 trees, and more than 80 percent of them are still alive, according to Gan. |
