Senior PLA Officers in Macao Give Celebrating Message

Senior military officers of the Chinese army stationed in Macao on Tuesday presented blessings to local government and residents on the occasion of first anniversary of the founding of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR).

With concerted efforts of the Macao SAR government and residents, a fine situation of social harmony and economic development has emerged, said a message from Liu Yuejun and He Xianshu, commander and political commissar, respectively, of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Macao Garrison.

They said that during the past year since Macao's return to the motherland, the principles of "one country, two systems", "Macao people governing Macao" and a high degree of autonomy in Macao have been carried out well.

In the year, the officers and men have effectively undertaken defense duties in the Macao SAR. "We owe heartfelt thanks to the Macao SAR government and residents for their enthusiastic support, " the officers said in the message.

They pledged that the PLA troops would continue to abide by the Macao Basic Law and Macao Garrison Law, and would not affect the normal life of residents around the camp.
