Shanghai Mobile to Expand GSM Network

The Shanghai Mobile will expand its GSM network, which will enlarge its network capacity by one million subscribers.

The network expansion is expected to be completed next year.

Shanghai Mobile is one of the biggest telecommunication network perators in China, with approximately 2,600,000 supporting end-users and an annual revenue of five billion yuan.

According to an agreement between Shanghai Mobile and Nokia, Nokia will supply and install GSM base stations for Shanghai Mobile.

The latest base station technology, provided by Nokia, will support GSM transmission as well as third-generation (3G) transmission, providing Shanghai Mobile opportunities to meet future market demand for wide-band mobile Internet.

The two companies have been working together on the mobile network since 1997.
