Sino-US Economic/Trade Cooperation Promising: AmbassadorChina will further open to the outside world and provide a more relaxed environment for overseas investment in the coming year to expand Sino-US trade exchanges, said Li Zhaoxing, China's ambassador to the United States, on December 16.Li made the remarks in a speech to 500 working staffers at the New-Year Conference of US Arkansas-based Wal-Mart Stores, the world largest retail enterprise. "The Chinese people are willing to make joint efforts with the American people to further Sino-US relationship on the basis of the principles of the three joint communiqu¨¦s by the two countries. It is very important and of great benefit to the peoples of both sides," said Li. Li conveyed his sincere congratulations to George W. Bush for his success in US presidential election. H. Lee Scott, president & CEO of Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. said to Li Zhaoxing that Bush has always supported free trade and US-Sino economic and trade cooperation. Scott said that Wal-Mart directly and indirectly imported over US$10 billion of Chinese commodities this year, accounting for 80 percent of its imports from abroad. He said that his company supports and hopes China will join the WTO as early as possible and it expects an early realization of permanent normal trade relationship with China by the US government. So far, Wal-Mart has opened 11 chain stores in China.
