Senior CPC Leader Meets DPRK OfficialHu Jintao, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and vice-president of China, made the remarks during a meeting with Kim Yang Gon, director of the International Affairs Department of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, who is on a visit to China. To reinforce the traditional friendly relations between China and the DPRK at the turn of the century is a common desire of the two parties, the two countries and people of the two countries, and serves the fundamental interests of the two sides, Hu said. In addition, strong China-DPRK relations will help maintain peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula, in East Asia as well as in the world, he said. The CPC, the Chinese Government and people are ready to work together with the DPRK to implement the important consensus reached by the supreme leaders of the two countries, and enrich the friendly ties, Hu stressed. Kim said when Kim Jong Il, general secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, recalled his visit to China last May, the general secretary thinks the visit pushed forward DPRK-China relations by a large step. Hu noted that during the successful unofficial visit by General Secretary Kim Jong Il, Chinese President Jiang Zemin and Kim reached important consensus on the development of China-DPRK relations in the new century. Kim Yang Gon said to strengthen and develop DPRK-China relations has been a consistent stand of the DPRK side. He said the traditional friendship between DPRK and China will continue from generation to generation under the guidance of the supreme leaders of the two countries. In addition, the DPRK director said he was deeply impressed by and happy to see the development in China during his current visit to Beijing and Shanghai.
