31 Overseas Organizations Compete in Designing Chinese Seaside Resort

Thirty-one overseas organizations have applied to join the competition to design a beach-based tourist and holiday zone in Beihai, a well-known seaside resort in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

An official responsible for the bids said more than a dozen domestic organizations have also decided to participate in the competition.

According to the official, five to eight applicants will be selected through a contest for the designs.

A special panel consisting of domestic and overseas specialists will choose the three best designs from the contest and the designer of the three best designs will be awarded US$100,000 each.

Overseas organizations include those from the United States, Japan, Australia, Germany, France and Britain.

Beihai, situated on the northern side of Beibu Gulf, is one of China's most popular tourist cities. It hosts more than 3 million tourists annually.

Yintan (silvery beach) Tourist and Holiday Zone extends 24 kilometers and has an area of 34 square kilometers. Being one of the city's major scenic sites, the zone is best known for its vast beach featuring gentle waves, nice sand and no danger from sharks.

The official added that they hoped to build Yintan tourist and holiday zone into Asia's best seaside attraction that will combine the purposes of taking vacation, sightseeing, entertainment, recreation, sports and health care through the new designs.
