Local Efforts to Train Young College Teachers

East China's Anhui Province has invested a large amount of money to conduct in-service training courses for young college teachers so as to improve their professional standards.

To handle the continual expansion of enrollment, colleges in Anhui have recruited more and more young teachers in recent years.

The Anhui education department regards the young teachers as vital for the future of the province.

In addition to the financial aid provided by local colleges, the Anhui education department has allocated 3.5 million yuan as a special annual fund to run in-service training courses for postgraduate students and for newly recruited teachers. The courses cost approximately 10 million yuan every year.

A total of 40 such courses have been run during the past three years, training more than 1,000 young teachers.
