US Man Charged With Raping Underage Cambodian Girl
A Cambodian court has charged a U.S. citizen with rape and indecent assault after he was found with a 15-year-old prostitute in his Phnom Penh hotel room last week, officials said on Monday. "I charged him with raping a 15-year-old girl," municipal court prosecutor Ngeth Sarath told the press.
"According to the law, he will face up to 10 years in prison" if found guilty. James Curtis Parks, a 57-year-old tourist from Hawaii, was arrested on December 13 after police were tipped he was having sex with an underage prostitute.
After the initial court appearance, he was taken back to the detention centre. Under Cambodian law, Parks has to be tried in six months or released.
