Beijing Silvery Winter Ice & Snow Festival Opened

Beijing Silvery Winter Ice & Snow Festival opened December 14.

Co-organized by Beijing Tourism Bureau, the governments of Yanqing and Pinggu Counties and Mentougou District, the festive activities are consisted of three major parts: Longqingxia Ice Lantern Festival, Pinggu Winter Swimming Festival and Mentougou Ice & Snow Festival.

Held at the festival are a series of events of local relishes, which include traditional show of ice lantern and ice waterfall in Longqingxia, ice sailing, sledge and ice peg-top in Kangxi Grassland, skiing competition in Shijinglong, ice-waterfall and ice-covered trees in Jingdong Canyon of Pinggu County.

At the same time, some 800 participants of over 30 teams from Beijing and nearby towns and provinces will join in the winter swimming contest in Shimen Lake. The 2nd Skiing Festival has been kicked off in Lingshan Mountain with a height of 2303-meters, the highest one in the vicinity of Beijing.

The Silvery Winter Ice & Snow Festival will be closed at the end of February next year.
