Anhui Province Prepares 18 Highway Projects for Overseas Investors

East China's Anhui Province recently invited overseas investors to invest in 18 highway projects.

These projects include the construction of 8 new highways and the transfer of management for 10 highways. On the list are the Wuhu-Xuancheng expressway and the Tongling-Huangshan expressway.

In order to encourage more participation, the provincial government has issued a series of preferential policies in taxes, price and land use.

The government also set up a complaint center and made public a special telephone number to help overseas investors.

From 1996 to 1999, a total of 2 billion yuan (US$240 million) of overseas investment went to highway construction in Anhui.

According to Wang Xingyao, a provincial official in charge of highway construction, the province in the coming five years plans to invest 50 billion yuan in highway construction, 20 billion yuan of which will come from overseas.
