Interview: Love for Motherland, Macao Results in Good Governing

Love for motherland and Macao has resulted in good governing in the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) over the past year, a local veteran businessman said in recent interview with Xinhua.

"The love of motherland and Macao has been a fine tradition among Macao people and it helps bring about the great transformation in the SAR this year," said Ma Man Kei, chairman of the Macao Chamber of Commerce.

"And the love of motherland serves as an effective guarantee of Macao's future development," said Ma, who is also vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).

Like their compatriots in the inland areas of China, Macao people have put national interests in the prime position, although the SAR practices the principles of "one country, two systems", " Macao people governing Macao" and a high degree of autonomy.

He noted that in just one year, the SAR is able to shake off economic recession and is expected to achieve a growth rate of 4 percent, and that public security has been improved to great extent.

"Anyway, we should admit the fact that the chief executive and other principal officials had little administrative experience before, but they are able to govern the region in an orderly way," the 81-year-old businessman said, explaining that all the officials are dedicated to serving the motherland and Macao well.

In addition, the transformation can also be attributed to the trust and support of the central government, and the collaboration of the masses of Macao residents, Ma Man Kei said.
