Russia, Cuba to Continue Military Cooperation

Russia and Cuba have agreed to maintain the close cooperation developed between the armed forces of both nations.

A technological-military cooperation agreement was signed in Havana Friday, December 15, by Raul Castro, first vice president of Cuba and minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces, and Russian Defense Minister Dmitriyevich Sergeyev.

Both officials reviewed the historical relations between the two countries and their armed forces.

Warming up relations with Cuba, including those in the military sphere, is the main purpose of Russian President Vladimir Putin's current four-day official visit to Cuba, which had enjoyed close relations with the former Soviet Union.

Putin, the first Russian president to visit Cuba since the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, will travel on to Canada Sunday.
