Haier Opens New Industrial Park
Haier Group, China's foremost producer of household electric appliances, opened a new industrial park in Hefei, capital city of east China's Anhui Province.
The new industrial park, built at a cost of one billion yuan, is expected to add 20 percent to the production capacity of Haier, headquartered in eastern Shandong Province.
The giant home appliance maker opened its first US factory last May, employing 180 people in Camden, S.C., to make refrigerators under its own brand name. Last year, Haier set up a design studio in Los Angeles to better suit to American consumer tastes.
The new park, covering an area of 53 hectares, is designed to churn out 1.5 million high-definition TV sets and 700,000 refrigerators annually. The park will also import an advanced assembly line to produce water and energy-efficient washing machines.
