King Plays Important Role in Cambodia's Rehabilitation: Ranariddh
King Norodom Sihanouk has played an important role in Cambodia's economic restoration and rehabilitation, said Funcinpec Party Chairman Norodom Ranariddh on Sunday.
Ranariddh said this when meeting with visiting Communist Party of China (CPC) Friendly Delegation headed by Deputy President of the Party's School of the CPC Central Committee Zheng Bijian in his residence here on Sunday morning.
He expressed thanks to the Chinese government and the Chinese people for their good treatment for King Sihanouk. The health of the king is very important for the Cambodian people because the Cambodian people need the king to play an important role in economic restoration and rehabilitation in the country, he said.
Under the leadership of King Sihanouk, Cambodia concluded the war of nearly three decades and had attained real peace and national reconciliation, entering into a new period with political stability and economic growth.
Ranariddh also thanked the Chinese government for its important role in the realization of peace in Cambodia.
He stressed that the Funcinpec Party and the Cambodian People's Party have been pursuing the policy of "one China." They have recognized the government of the People's Republic of China as the only legal government of the Chinese people, he said.
The Funcinpec party's chairman noted that the historical visit of Chinese President Jiang Zemin in November is of great significance in strengthening and developing good relations between the CPC and Funcinpec Party, and between the two governments.
He said that the "Open-up " policy made by Deng Xiaoping is completely right, which has brought about tremendous changes in the Chinese economic construction.
