First International Container Port on Yangtze
Jiulongpo Port, the first international container port on China's longest river, the Yangtze, became operational in Chongqing Saturday, December 16, in the Chongqing Municipality, southwest China.

The container port is the most inland port in the country. The port connecting railways in southwest China has turned the Yangtze into an important container river course.

The project started in 1998 and cost a total investment of 220 million yuan. Jiulongpo port is equipped with the capacity to handle 50,000 TEUs annually.

The port will be responsible for 90 percent of Chongqing's cargo trade through riverways. It is expected to facilitate water transportation for the hinterland region, which enjoys preferential policies.
