Shanghai Abolishes Rules Disobedient to WTO

Nearly 100 policies and rules issued by the Shanghai municipal government will be abolished through legal proceedings, according to an official source.

The municipal government of Shanghai said that these policies and rules contradict the principles of the World Trade Organization (WTO).

Shanghai started cleaning up its policies and rules in the middle of this year, so far it has rechecked more than 400 policies and rules and some 20 percent of them were found unsuitable for WTO principles, an official with the municipal government said.

"Most of the policies and rules to be abolished are those related to foreign trade," the official who didn't give his name said.

According to Shanghai Mayor Xu Kuangdi, the city will complete remedying its codes and regulations in order to better fit itself into international practice in three to five years.

According to the mayor, starting from January, 2001, a free government bulletin on new rules and regulations will be made available to everyone who is interested.
