Southwest China to Host Ice-Snow Festival

The First Southwest China Ice-Snow Tourist Festival is scheduled to open on January 6, 2001 in southwest China's Sichuan Province, local officials said at a press conference Friday, December 15.

The three-month festival will be held on the Xiling Mountain, which is close to the capital city of Sichuan, as well as in other six forest parks and nature reserves across the province.

Major programs during the festival include various snow and ice sport activities and snow and ice landscape sightseeing activities, the official said.

Sichuan, located in southwest China's mountainous region, has about four months of snow annually. There are abundance of snow and ice for tourists to come and see like snow-covered mountains, ice falls, glaciers and soft frosty landscapes in the province.
