US May Invite Israelis, Palestinians to Washington

The United States is exploring the possibility of hosting talks between Israeli and Palestinian negotiators in Washington, State Department spokesman Richard Boucher said on Friday.

If the Israelis and Palestinians agree, the talks would probably take place for several days in the middle of next week, a senior State Department official added.

"One possible alternative is to have direct discussions between negotiators from both sides back here in Washington and we are exploring this possibility with the parties," Boucher told reporters in Washington.
