Suspects Responsible for Hospital Fire Detained

Police in Beijing have detained nine suspects who are allegedly responsible for a fire which broke out in the Peking Union Medical College Hospital on October 26 and killed three people and seriously injured six.

According to an investigation by police, the fire was caused by polyurethane materials in a basement of the hospital, which was ignited by welding slag when a heating device was under repair.

Detained by the police were Zhang Baizhong, the electric welder with a local construction company, Zhu Jianguo, a worker in charge of fire safety matters, and seven other officials related to the case.
