FM Spokeswoman on Imprisonment of Spy

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zhang Qiyue Thursday, December 14, briefed journalists on the recent three-year imprisonment sentenced to Teng Chunyan.

In response to a question at a regular press conference, Zhang said Teng, who came back to China holding a Chinese private passport in May this year, was arrested as a suspect for "spying and illegally revealing information to overseas agents".

Early in November, Beijing People's Procuratorate filed a suit against Teng for spying activities, and Beijing No. 1 Intermediate People's Court recently held a hearing on Teng's case, Zhang said.

Teng was sentenced Tuesday to a three-year imprisonment with deprivation of political rights for one year.
