Border Railway Station Sets New Cargo Record

The amount of cargo for import and export handled by the Alataw Pass Railway Station in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region totaled 4 million tons so far this year.

Its transport volume is expected to reach 4.2 million tons by the end of this year, setting a historic record.

When the station was built in 1991, the annual volume of freight was only 150,000 tons. It took six years to turn the station into the second largest border railway handler in China.

The station has led the country in railway transport since 1999.

In the past decade, Alataw Pass has handled 16.67 million tons of cargo, generating 1.2 billion yuan of transport receipts and 3.3 billion yuan of tariffs by customs.
