New Oilfield Built in Xinjiang
The Yanmuxi Oilfield in Turpan-Harmi Basin, the
Xinjiang
Uygur Autonomous Region, has gone into operation with an annual crude oil output of 130,000 tons.
When discovered in 1996£¬the oilfield had oil reserves of 1.9 million tons with no commercial value. Three years later£¬with advanced exploration technology£¬the Turpan-Harmi Oilfield Company found several new oilfields around Yanmuxi£¬increasing its oil reserve to ten million tons. Development and construction of these fields began immediately.
Altogether seven oilfields have been in operation in the Turpan-Harmi Basin£¬with a combined annual production of 3.5 million tons of crude oil and 1.4 billion cubic meters of natural gas. The basin is projected to pump out 2.85 million tons of crude oil and one billion cubic meters of natural gas for the whole of 2000.
