Romanian President-elect Pledges to Promote Relations with China

Romanian President-elect Ion Iliescu said in Bucharest on Wednesday, December 13, that during his four-year tenure of presidency, he will push forward the existing traditional friendly cooperative relations between Romania and China.

Iliescu made the remarks during a meeting with Chinese Ambassador to Romania Chen Delai.

The two countries should seek new ways to promote bilateral economic and trade cooperation to accommodate the needs of the two sides and the overall relations between the two countries, he said.

Chen conveyed to Iliescu a message of congratulations from Chinese President Jiang Zemin.

Iliescu, chairman of the Party of Social Democracy of Romania, has won the Romanian presidential runoff and will assume the presidency soon, the Central Electoral Bureau said on Tuesday.
