US, DPRK Hold Talks in Malaysia

The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the United States Wednesday held talks in Kuala Lumpur on establishing a schedule of operations for recovery of the remains of American servicemen missing in action during the Korean War, the US Embassy said.

This week's talks in Kuala Lumpur are scheduled to end on Friday or Saturday, the embassy said in a statement Wednesday.

The American delegation comprised negotiators from the US Defense Department's Prisoner of War/Missing Personnel Office, the statement said.

It said that during the five separate operations this year, the US teams recovered remains believed to be those of 65 American soldiers.

Between 1996 and 1999, they recovered 42 sets of remains of which five have been positively identified and 10 others nearing final stages of identification.

Over 8,100 American servicemen were reportedly listed as missing in action during the Korean War from 1950 to 1953.
